April 12 Update form Interim Superintendent:

Good evening, Romulus Families, I hope you have enjoyed the day.  Before I begin giving information, I would first like to say "Thank you" to all of you who work in health care, provide any food services, law enforcement, fire, EMT, security, and other essential services that are helping and providing support for our community.  We are grateful for you! Now, Please see the items below for the upcoming week:

Distance Learning: Last week, teachers and students were officially on "Spring Break", however many teachers worked through the break, planning and working together to provide our students with the best possible alternatives to learning away from school. According to the state's timeline, we are required to begin our official Distance Learning program by April 28th.  Because of the diligent planning of our principals, teachers, and staff, we plan to roll out our plan on April 20th. Educational plans are being made to provide instruction, both with and without technology, so that all our students are able to learn. Once plans have been finalized, we will provide you with details on how learning will be facilitated at the different grade levels.  We will plan to hold Virtual Town Hall Meetings next week to provide opportunities for questions and answers about how the remainder of the school year will play out.

Building Hours:  On Thursday, April 9th Governor Whitmer extended the "Stay Home, Stay Safe" order through at least April 30th.  With that, only staff may enter the buildings. Please stay tuned for communication from your student's school regarding office hours for your particular building, so that you can reach out to staff for specific questions.

Communication: Please continue to check your emails and begin visiting Parent Connection as part of keeping up with information from the schools.  If your student has a school email account (especially high school students), please have them check it on a daily basis.

While this situation would have never been what any of us would ask for, we are looking forward to being able to use creative ways to stay connected with our students and provide them with continued learning.  Please stay tuned as we finalize details this week, and please continue to Stay Home and Stay Safe!

Grade Level Enrichment Packets

In addition to feeding our children's bodies, we also want their MINDS to be fed during this closure, too. On Thursday, March 19th, learning packets will be distributed along our bus routes for each grade level, so that our students may continue to practice, explore, and remember what they've already learned.

It is recommended to provide structure for your student. At school, students get used to their school day structure. Communicating with your child that they will have a structure to follow for the next several weeks will set expectations and set everyone up to make the most out of this period of time.
